It's sad for me to have to make this announcement in the midst of such exciting times for BL fans-- the number of BL manga in the US just keeps rising, as does the number of anime adaptations in Japan, and did I mention ANTIQUE BAKERY ANIME?! --but make it I must.

After much discussion, Jordan and I have decided to suspend our BL coverage at YaoiSuki indefinitely. Between my new job and apartment, and a score of complications for Jordan, we simply no longer have the time to dedicate to our regular news and reviews lineup (a fact no doubt noticed by many of you).

The site will continue to be here for those who wish to go through our past reviews, check on some news item that happened, con coverage, forums, etc. But neither of us will be updating for the foreseeable future.

Will we ever come back? That I don't know. We've loved running this site for the last two years (we even missed our 2nd birthday this year-- that's how bad we are now!), and we're sad that we have to set it aside now. So it's certainly not impossible that we'll be back! But for the time being, the site will remain silent.

That said, we ourselves will certainly still be around, even if we're not updating. You can contact me (Jen) at jen@yaoisuki.net This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and you can contact Jordan at jordan@yaoisuki.net This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , and you can contact us both at once at yaoisuki@yaoisuki.net This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

If you want to keep up on yaoi-related news, I've extracted a promise from our oft-mentioned friend gia to cover the BL news as much as possible, both on her current site at giapet.net and at her upcoming site (I *will* make a quick post when that's going). She does a fantastic job with news coverage in general and I know she follows BL as well, so I'm sure she'll do a boffo job.

I also want to make a quick shout-out to the publishers, especially Digital Manga Publishing, DramaQueen, Yaoi Press, Central Park Media, Deux Publishing, Iris Print, Boysenberry, Yen Press, Kitty Media, Blu Manga...oh wait, that's pretty much all of them, isn't it? Each and every company embraced us and offered information and review copies and we were continually (and pleasantly) surprised by their support.

...Well, I guess that's about it, so...thanks for all the good times, guys. You are the ones who made all the work we've done over the last two years fun and worthwhile, and we'll miss you. So don't be a stranger, ok?

♥ Jen and Jordan

I just got a frantic call from my pal gia, who apparently was checking up on her RSS feeds in the middle of a layover in Oakland and found this big news. For those of you who can't read it:

ANTIQUE BAKERY IS GETTING A TV ANIME!

Yes, yes, it's not technically BL (and gia and I both expressed our hopes that people won't assume it is and ignore it), but it's still very exciting and it's about time that Yoshinaga got a chance for more recognition!

The 12-episode series will air this July. And that sound you hear? That's the sound of a thousand fangirls squee-ing.

YaoiCon has announced its guest of honor for 2008: Nitta Youka, creator of Haru wo Daiteita/Embracing Love! This isn't her first appearance at the con, either-- she attended six years ago. I bet more than a few of you will be excited to have her back, aye?

We first heard about it from the Youka Nitta LJ Community, btw.

We got some nice e-mail valentines from both 801 Media and Iris Print, who seems to be plodding along according to their blog (also, I can't help but guess that the valentines day image, which features a "little red riding hood" and a wolfboy, is from their upcoming BL fairy tales project?).

But! 801 Media announced a few of new licenses, so let's get crackin':

  • Black Sun by Uki Ogasawara
  • Meeting You by Mio Tennohji
  • Falling Into Love and His Arrogance, two books set at the same modeling agency by Takashi Kanzaki. Rumor has it there are handcuffs in the former.

Is this really the big slew of licenses we were supposed to get for Christmas? Hmm. Well, a new Tennohji title should be nice, and the Kanzaki books sound pretty fun too.

CONFESSION TIME! When I first started the Yaoi Press Suki contest, we had our winner in record time-- the FIRST respondent! After some quick deliberation with Yamila over at Yaoi Press we decided we couldn't let the fun end THAT fast, so we'd just have two winners.

Well, folks, we now have our second winner! So congratulations to users quacky and Joan!

The title, for those who are curious, is: Happy Yaoi Yum Yum. It may sound a little cutesy, but here's Yamila's explanation:

At Janicon I was going over my checklist of things I had to do from Yaoi Con. While I was standing at the booth with my staff person I mentioned that I needed to figure out a title for the Yaoi Hentai replacement. Just then an Asian woman saw the booth and walked up with a big smile. She said, "Ooooh! So much happy Yaoi!" Then she picked up a copy of Yaoi Hentai 4, looked at the back and said, "Yum, yum!"

It was a eureka moment. :)

How can you argue with a fan like that? Congratulations to our winners, who will receive FIVE Yaoi Press books and a yaoi parasol courtesy of Yaoi Press. (You'll receive an e-mail shortly!) And for those of you who didn't win-- as always, keep tabs on us for more!

Okay folks, here's your second hint for the title of the new upcoming Yaoi Press anthology series:

    H_ _ _ _  YA_I  Y_ _  Y_ _

Ooh...I'm kinda mean. ;) Here are the rules and instructions!

Dun-da-dunn! I promised a new contest, and now it's time for me to deliver!

Yaoi Press is sponsoring a contest for us in which you get to guess the name of their new line of yaoi books, which will replace their Yaoi Hentai series. We'll be posting regular hints about the name in a sort of hangman-style fashion, revealing letters as we go. Whoever guesses the name first wins new reprints of five Yaoi Press books (Yaoi Hentai 1 and 2, Desire of the Gods, Aluria Chronicles, and Spirit Marked) and a yaoi parasol!

So, that get everyone's attention? Good. Here's your first hint:

    H_ _ _ _ Y_ _ _ Y_ _ Y_ _

That's all you get from us for now. The prizelist, rules, and instructions for entering are right here, so make sure you read ALL the rules and go ahead and enter! We'll be running the contest through February 10th or until someone guesses right-- whichever comes first.

    Happy guessing!

Iris just sent out an e-mail alerting us that until noon tomorrow (that's January 25th, 12pm PST), Iris' pending titles Home on the Range and Queer Magic will both be 30% off at the Iris store. Use the codes "hotr30percent" (for Home On The Range) and qm30percent (for Queer Magic) to get your discounts, and get to it if you're gonna. The codes will ONLY work until noon tomorrow.

Also, just FYI-- I know we've been bad about reviewing lately (I've got a new job and Jordan is helping run an event), but we will be announcing a new contest this weekend, so check back, mmmmkay?

It must be roll call time for BL companies, 'cause we're suddenly getting quite a few "HERE!"s. First up: Yaoi Magazine sent out a press release announcing that they'd already gotten more than 300% of the number of preorders they'd expected. You can see samples, submit stories, and/or snag your copy on their site.

Next up, Deux Press has a MySpace account! I know because they friended me. I never use that thing though. If you do, be buddies with Deux here.

And finally, 801 Media! Some of you may have noticed that 801 never offered up that Christmas present of new license announcements (*cough*). They now promise that we'll get our goodies on Valentine's Day. They also had a few printing problems with new titles, so if you're wondering why you haven't snagged them yet...

Our printer printed the pages of both The King of Debt and The Prime Minister's Secret Diplomacy out of order...twice. So we had to print the books 3 times!!! We have some advanced copies on sale at the 801 Media Inc. store, also Akadot Retail has some copies and so does Right Stuf International.
Yipe. Well, that's all the updates we have for today. Stay tuned!

According this this entry on what appears to be Yaoi Magazine's blog, the first issue has been printed.

The website for the magazine is here.

Also, there is a trailer up for Duel Love that you can see online at this Japanator article. Sadly, it sounds like the game actually has a plot. Does it really need one?
